If you want to make use of all the space in a given room, wall storage methods will help you turn a wall into a handy place to store things neatly and right at hand. One way to use this method is to build a storage system on the wall of your children's room. It's an easy and inexpensive way to store toys and games, and you can build one in a day.
You will be using unfinished cubbies, that can be purchased at discount or craft stores. They usually come in three sizes, so work out the logistics so that you'll know how many to purchase, to fit on the wall-space of one wall of your children's room.
You'll want to decorate the cubbies before you mount them, to help the room look cheerful, as well as organized. You can leave them natural if you would like, too. If you are going to stain or paint the cubbies, sand them first and then apply your stain or paint. You may need two coats. Be sure to allow plenty of time for the cubbies to dry before you mount them.
Google “wall unit” images so that you will be able to get an idea of how you might like to configure your storage system. Make sure you don't mount the cubbies so high that your kids can't reach inside them. Place baskets within each cubby, and then mount them as you have diagrammed. You can mount just a few cubbies or cover an entire wall. Use your imagination, and the resulting wall storage system will look cheery and fun.
You can also set up a storage system in your bathroom, which is traditionally a place that is relaxing. Make sure that the colors you choose, or the finish, if you leave the cubbies natural in tone, reflect the decor of the room, and don't make it look gaudy. You don't want your wall system to destroy the warm and calm feeling of your bathroom. If you're not sure about using cubbies, you can use a wall cabinet instead.
You can arrange and store medicines, tooth brushes, soaps, hair dryers, shaving cream, razors, toilet paper and paper towels in a bathroom wall cabinet. Make sure that the cabinet is easily accessible, and that it doesn't take up too much space so that it looks awkward. A cabinet over the toilet or the sink can be easily accessed by adults, and these are the places to stow sharp items like razors, where young children can't reach them.
If you place your cabinet above the sink, you can use vanity cabinets with mirrors mounted on the doors. Cabinets that have glass doors will also work, and you can select either foggy or clear glass. Stainless steel cabinets can be appealing, as long as they complement the style already in the room. Wood cabinets are probably the most popular type, made with rosewood, mahogany or oak. Cheaper cabinets can be found made with other woods, if this is a concern. Some wooden cabinets display carved patterns, and others have art work or fancy flowers engraved in the face. Select the bathroom wall storage cabinet that will work the best in your room.
